OBSEQUIO

Emulating bygone eras, when movement was offered as a tribute to honor kings and queens, Obsequio was conceived as a gift to delight the audience — the very own monarchy of the performer — through the offering of a dance.

The piece is grounded in the act of revealing oneself and in the shared experience of witnessing movement as a way of connection and dialogue.
Through the dancer’s entire body — especially through the arms and hands — the solo embraces the vulnerability inherent in facing oneself, using it to guide spectators through a display of through a display of pure dance, poetry of movement, and music. Obsequio becomes a necessary gesture of affirmation — an invitation to embrace individuality, to show off, and to take pleasure in the body fully and unapologetically.
